FUDCon EMEA 2011 (Milan) - My Experience
In this post I will be recounting my experience with the FUDCon EMEA 2011 which was held in Milan, Italy. I will explain in detail what I learned and I could share with my friends fedorians of Europe and Africa.

Jumping the Puddle
My family took me to the Tocumen International Airport for my flight to Milan (I had a connection first in Newark). It was 29 September, was a little nervous, but excited to know Italy and, primarily, to share in the FUDCon EMEA.
My family took me to the Tocumen International Airport for my flight to Milan (I had a connection first in Newark). It was 29 September, was a little nervous, but excited to know Italy and, primarily, to share in the FUDCon EMEA.
It was my first international flight so I was aware of many details. When we were near Newark the captain reported that Newark had bad weather and the aircraft need to spin around, but it does not had enough gas so the flight was diverted to Dallas, Washington to get gasoline.
After about 2 hours, we landed in Newark. I had to set my new flight to Milan. Continental's assistant found two options: Newark-Manchester-Milan or Newark-Paris-Milan. Because of reaching earlier, she chose the Newark-Paris-Milan.
I had to wait about 6 hours for the flight from Newark to Paris (the flight was delayed about 2 hours). It was a pretty long trip. I slept most of the way. When I arrived in Paris (in fact, I saw the Eiffel tower) I had to go to a Air France's assistant to restore my ticket to go to Milan.
I was at the Paris airport for about 4 hours. The longing to be in the FUDCon grew. An interesting fact is that for this trip I was assigned in the Premium section.
When I arrived in Milan, Jared was waiting (I had warned him by email of the multiple delays) with a smile on his face. The first thing I asked was: "How was the trip?" and there I began to tell my interesting story, while we were going to the hotel.
Hotel UNA Mediterráneo
To reach the hotel we were, first, take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale and finally, take a metro to the station Porta Romana. From there we walk no more than 6 minutes and arrived at the hotel.
The hotel where we stayed was called UNA Mediterráneo. It had very nice rooms, equipped with Internet access. Something I can not forget was the female voice singing from the elevator which notify you when you reach a particular floor.
Another interesting detail is that they put in the elevator, the schedule of breakfast. We had our breakfast, the three days, from 8:00 am until 8:50 am. Breakfast was buffet style and was really delicious.
FUDCon EMEA Milan - First Day
By the time I arrived in Milan (approximately 10:30 pm), I do not had the opportunity to share with my fellow fedorians the welcome party held at Cafe Yguana, but they told me that they had a great time and the place had good environment.
Instead, I had dinner with Jared Smith and Lars Delhage. We talked a little about many subjects, including like how was my trip, expectations about FUDCon, among others.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Second Day
I was very anxious. I prepared to go to the "Università degli Studi di Milano". Along with Dennis Gilmore and many others fedorians, went to college. When we arrived, the organizers were arranging the final details to begin this great event.
Jared started saying a few words of welcome and asked who had previously been in a FUDCon. Interestingly, almost half the audience had not participated in one, so this was his first opportunity.
After that, he explained the mechanics of Barcamp and began the proposals. There were about 30 presentations, all sorts of topics. Among those I remember were: 0MQ, RPM Future / Alternative Packaging, AutoQA, Drawing, Netbeans, RPMDev LATAM (my topic), How Fedora is Made, BKChem, Spins Process and many more.
After setting up the schedule of the presentations, the organizers handled the sweater and badge of the event. I really liked their design. I also liked the banner.
Later we took a group picture where it shows the great assistance they had this event. Here is one of many group photos that were taken:
Next, each one went to their presentation of interest. In my case, I went to the room that the organizers assigned me to prepare my talk. I had a good audience, because they ask many interesting questions and, in fact, there were some projects prospects between LATAM and EMEA.
At 1:00 pm the organizers called us to lunch. The food was delicious that day and complete (including fruit and dessert). At that time, people took the opportunity to talk and share experiences of the talks.
At approximately 6:00 pm presentations ended and we all went to the hotel. It was time to prepare for the FUDPub. We met at 7:30 pm to go TroppaPizza together. We had to use several subways to reach there.
When we get there, the first impression was to see the place full of people. Everybody took their seats and start waiting for pizzas. The law is TroppaPizza is to eat as much pizza as you can. A wooden cube with sides of green and red color are the one that defines whether or not we are eating pizza. The drinks were large jars, so no problem with thirst.

A special moment was when Christoph Wickert disguised as a hot dog. At the beginning I did not understand why, but then Jared explained to me that was about Beefy Miracle and so I understood the main history of that.
Everyone was happy. People took many photos. We enjoyed the moment. After finishing the FUDPub, we went sightseeing. We went to a bar to share a few beers and drinks.
Finally went to the hotel to rest for the last day of the conference.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Third Day
After breakfast I went to college. There organizers established the topics for HackFest. We were all morning and part of the afternoon on that. I participated in some of them.
I remember Lydia Bossers (Jeroen van Meeuwen girlfriend) hackfest related to BKChem. She wanted some improvements to the code of the program that allowed her to do some work in Chemistry. Another interesting hackfest was related to the ambassadors. There were discussed issues such as budgets, response times, reports, refunds, among others. This link contains the pad where they were making notes and recommendations.
After termination of the hackfests we went to the hotel, where everyone enjoyed the evening in tneir own way. I went with Jared and Peter Robinson to eat some gelato at a place called Il Massimo del Gelato (the best place to eat gelato in Milan). It was an experience of another world. That was too delicious gelato. I tried a cone with chocolate with gold, pistachio and strawberry.
After that we finally returned to the hotel and had dinner. In my case, I prepared my things to make my way back to Panama, so I went to bed early.
"Return" to Panama
I woke early, finished fixing some issues and went down to breakfast. Then I said goodbye to those who were there and went looking for my flight at the airport of Malpensa. There were technical problems with the flight for which it was reassigned to next day.
So back to the hotel, with Jared. I told him everything that had happened. That evening we talked about many things, we ate a sandwich and enjoy gelato from a place nearby the hotel. I also had the opportunity to use a computer from OLPC project. They are full equipped. A kid would be too happy with a tool like this. In the evening we dined with Will Woods in a restaurant and laboratory.
Reaching Panama
Jared and I arrived early at the airport to see answers regarding my situation. Similarly, Jared was preparing for his return flight. In the end both succeeded.
We said goodbye and, well, I continued my adventure alone. There was no problem with the flights. I came to Panama. My family expected me happy, eager to know my great adventure. And so... I went back to my reality.
My Conclusion
I found this like an extraordinary and unique experience. I acquired new skills, met new friends, learn new experiences, I grew as a person. I hope the next FUDCon will be as successful as this was.

FUDCon EMEA 2011 (Milan) - Mi experiencia
En este post estaré narrando mi experiencia respecto al FUDCOn EMEA 2011 que se realizó en la ciudad de Milán, Italia. Explicaré, detalladamente, qué aprendí y que pude compartir con mis amigos fedorianos de Europa y África.

Saltando el Charco
Mi familia me acompañó al Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen para tomar el vuelo a Milán (tenía una conexión, primero, en Newark). Era el 29 de septiembre, estaba un poco nervioso, pero muy entusiasmado de conocer Italia y, primordialmente, compartir en el FUDCon EMEA.
Fue mi primer vuelo internacional así que estuve al tanto de muchos detalles. Cuando estábamos cerca de Newark el capitán notificó que había mal clima y el avión debía dar vueltas, pero no tenía suficiente gasolina por lo que el vuelo se desvió a Dallas, Washington para suplirse de gasolina.
Luego de aproximadamente 2 horas, aterrizamos en Newark. Tuve que establecer mi nuevo vuelo a Milán. La asistente de Continental encontró dos opciones: Newark-Manchester-Milán o Newark-París-Milán. Por factores de llegar menos tarde, se escogió la opción Newark-París-Milán.
Tuve que esperar aproximadamente 6 horas para tomar el vuelo de Newark a París (el vuelo se retrasó como 2 horas). Fue un viaje bastante largo. Dormí la mayoría del trayecto. Cuando llegué a París (de hecho, vi la torre Eiffel) tuve que ir donde un asistente de Air France para reestablecer mi boleto para ir a Milán.
Estuve en el aeropuerto de París por aproximadamente 4 horas. Las ansias por estar en el FUDCon crecían. Un dato interesante es que para este viaje me asignaron en la sección Premium.
Cuando llegué a Milán, Jared me esperaba (ya le había avisado, por correo electrónico de los múltiples retrasos) con una sonrisa en el rostro. Lo primero que me preguntó fue: ¿cómo fue el viaje? Y allí comencé a narrarle mi interesante historia, mientras estabamos camino al hotel.
Hotel UNA Mediterráneo
Para llegar al hotel debíamos, primero, tomar el Malpensa Express a Milano Centrale y, finalmente, tomar un metro a la estación Puerta Romana. De allí caminamos no más de 6 minutos y llegamos al hotel.
El hotel donde nos hospedamos se llamaba UNA Mediterráneo. Tenía muy buenas habitaciones, equipadas con todo y, principalmente, acceso a Internet. Algo que no podré olvidar del hotel era la particular voz femenina cantora del ascensor que te notificaba cuando llegabas a un piso en particular.
Otro detalle interesante es que ellos colocaban, en el ascensor, el horario de desarrollo. Nosotros tuvimos nuestro desayuno, los tres días, desde las 8:00am hasta las 8:50am. No está de más decir que el desayuno era estilo buffet y estuvo deliciosísimo.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Primer Día
Por la hora que llegué a Milán (aproximadamente 10:30pm), no tuve la oportunidad de compartir con mis compañeros fedorianos la fiesta de bienvenida, celebrada en el Cafe Yguana, pero ellos me dijeron que la pasaron muy bien y que el lugar tenía buen ambiente.
En lugar de eso, cené junto a Jared Smith y Lars Delhage. Estuvimos conversando un poco de muchos temas, entre algunos estaban cómo me fue en mi viaje, expectativas sobre el FUDCon, entre otros.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Segundo Día
Muy ansioso me preparé para ir a la "Università degli Studi di Milano". Junto a Dennis Gilmore y muchos otros fedorianos, fuimos a la universidad. Cuando llegamos, los organizadores estaban arreglando los últimos detalles para dar inicio a este gran evento.
Jared comenzó diciendo unas palabras de bienvenida y preguntó quienes habían estado previamente en un FUDCon. Lo interesante es que casi la mitad del auditorio no había participado en uno, así que esta era su primera oportunidad.
Luego de eso, se explicó la mecánica del Barcamp y comenzaron las propuestas. Hubieron aproximadamente 30 presentaciones, de toda clase de temas. Entre las que recuerdo estaban: 0MQ, RPM Future / Alternative Packaging, AutoQA, Drawing, Netbeans, RPMDev LATAM (my topic), How Fedora is Made, BKChem, Spins Process and many more.
Después de acomodar el horario de las presentaciones, los organizadores nos dieron el sueter y gafete del evento. Me gustó mucho el diseño de los mismos. También me gustó el diseño del banner.
Posteriormente nos tomaron una foto grupal donde se nota la gran asistencia que tuvo este evento. A continuación mostraré una de las tantas fotos en grupo que se tomaron:
Seguido, cada uno fue a la presentación de su interés. En mi caso, fui al salón que me tenían asignado para preparar mi charla. Tuve una buena audiencia, ya que los que estuvieron allí realizar muchas preguntas interesantes y, de hecho, surgieron algunos proyectos entre LATAM y EMEA.
A las 1:00pm los organizadores nos convocaron al almuerzo. La comida ese día estuvo deliciosa y completa (incluía fruta y postre). En ese momento, las personas aprovechaban para conversar y compartir las experiencias en las charlas.
Aproximadamente a las 6:00pm terminaron las presentaciones y todos nos fuimos al hotel. Era el momento de preparse para el FUDPub. Nos reunimos a las 7:30pm para partir juntos a TroppaPizza. Tuvimos que tomar varios metros para llegar.
Cuando llegamos la primera impresión fue ver el lugar lleno. Estaban nuestras mesas esperándonos. Todos muy emocionados tomaron sus asientos y esperamos por nuestras pizzas. La ley en TroppaPizza es comer la cantidad de pizza que puedas. Un cubo de madera con lado de color verde y rojo es la que define si seguimos comiendo pizza o no. Las bebidas eran en jarras grandes, por lo que no hubo problema de sed.
Un momento especial fue cuando Christoph Wickert se disfazó de un hot dog. Al inicio no comprendía por qué, pero me explicaron que era respecto a Beefy Miracle y así comprendí la historia de eso.
Todos estaban contentos, se tomaron bastantes fotos. Se disfrutó mucho el momento. Después de terminar esa velada, salimos a recorrer la ciudad. Fuimos a un bar a compartir unas cervezas y tragos.
Finalmente fuimos al hotel a descansar para el último día de la conferencia.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Tercer Día
Luego de desayunar fui a la universidad. Allá se establecieron los temas para los HackFest. Estuvimos toda la mañana y parte de la tarde en eso. Participé en algunos de ellos.
Recuerdo el hackfest de Lydia Bossers (novia de Jeroen Van Meeuwen) relacionado con BKChem. Ella quería ciertas mejoras al código de ese programa que le permitía realizar algunos trabajos de química. Otro hackfest interesante fue el relacionado a los embajadores. Allí se discutieron temas como presupuestos, tiempos de respuestas, informes, reembolsos, entre otros. Este enlace contiene el pad donde se estaban realizando anotaciones y recomendaciones.
Luego de que terminaran los hackfests nos fuimos al hotel, donde cada uno disfrutó la tarde a su manera. Yo fui con Jared y Peter Robinson a comer un poco de gelato en un lugar llamado Il Massimo del Gelato (el mejor lugar para comer gelato en Milán). Fue una experiencia de otro mundo. Ese gelato estaba demasiado delicioso. Yo probé un cono con helado de chocolate con oro, pistacho y fresa.
Después volvimos al hotel y finalmente cenamos. En mi caso, preparé mis cosas para tomar mi viaje de regreso a Panamá, así que fui a dormir temprano.
"Regresando" a Panamá
Me desperté temprano, terminé de arreglar algunos asuntos y bajé a tomar el desayuno. Después me despedí de los que estaban allí y me fui en búsqueda de mi vuelo en el aeropuerto de Malpensa. Hubieron problemas técnicos con el vuelo por lo que fue reasignado al día siguiente.
Por tanto regresé al hotel, con Jared. Le comenté todo lo que me había sucedido. Esa tarde conversamos de muchos temas, comimos un derretido juntos y disfrutamos de gelato en un local cerca del hotel. Además tuve la oportunidad de utilizar una computadora del proyecto OLPC. Son unos ordenardores muy completos. Un niño sería demasiado feliz con una herramienta como esa. En la noche cenamos junto a Will Woods en un restaurante laboratorio.
Pisando Panamá
Jared y yo llegamos temprano al aeropuerto a ver respuestas respecto a mi situación. De igual manera Jared estaba preparándose para su vuelo de regreso. Al final, ambos, en ese sentido, tuvimos éxito.
Nos despedimos y, bueno, continué mi aventura solo. No hubo ningún tipo de problema con los viajes de regreso. Llegué a Panamá sin problemas. Mi familia me esperaba contenta, ansiosa de saber mi gran aventura. Y así volví a mi realidad.
Mi Conclusión
Me pareció una experiencia extraordinaria y única. Adquirí nuevos conocimientos, conocí nuevos amigos, aprendí nuevas experiencias, crecí como persona. Espero que los próximos eventos sean tan exitosos como lo fue este.

Aproximadamente a las 6:00pm terminaron las presentaciones y todos nos fuimos al hotel. Era el momento de preparse para el FUDPub. Nos reunimos a las 7:30pm para partir juntos a TroppaPizza. Tuvimos que tomar varios metros para llegar.
Cuando llegamos la primera impresión fue ver el lugar lleno. Estaban nuestras mesas esperándonos. Todos muy emocionados tomaron sus asientos y esperamos por nuestras pizzas. La ley en TroppaPizza es comer la cantidad de pizza que puedas. Un cubo de madera con lado de color verde y rojo es la que define si seguimos comiendo pizza o no. Las bebidas eran en jarras grandes, por lo que no hubo problema de sed.
Un momento especial fue cuando Christoph Wickert se disfazó de un hot dog. Al inicio no comprendía por qué, pero me explicaron que era respecto a Beefy Miracle y así comprendí la historia de eso.
Finalmente fuimos al hotel a descansar para el último día de la conferencia.
FUDCon EMEA Milán - Tercer Día
Luego de desayunar fui a la universidad. Allá se establecieron los temas para los HackFest. Estuvimos toda la mañana y parte de la tarde en eso. Participé en algunos de ellos.
Recuerdo el hackfest de Lydia Bossers (novia de Jeroen Van Meeuwen) relacionado con BKChem. Ella quería ciertas mejoras al código de ese programa que le permitía realizar algunos trabajos de química. Otro hackfest interesante fue el relacionado a los embajadores. Allí se discutieron temas como presupuestos, tiempos de respuestas, informes, reembolsos, entre otros. Este enlace contiene el pad donde se estaban realizando anotaciones y recomendaciones.
Luego de que terminaran los hackfests nos fuimos al hotel, donde cada uno disfrutó la tarde a su manera. Yo fui con Jared y Peter Robinson a comer un poco de gelato en un lugar llamado Il Massimo del Gelato (el mejor lugar para comer gelato en Milán). Fue una experiencia de otro mundo. Ese gelato estaba demasiado delicioso. Yo probé un cono con helado de chocolate con oro, pistacho y fresa.
Después volvimos al hotel y finalmente cenamos. En mi caso, preparé mis cosas para tomar mi viaje de regreso a Panamá, así que fui a dormir temprano.
"Regresando" a Panamá
Me desperté temprano, terminé de arreglar algunos asuntos y bajé a tomar el desayuno. Después me despedí de los que estaban allí y me fui en búsqueda de mi vuelo en el aeropuerto de Malpensa. Hubieron problemas técnicos con el vuelo por lo que fue reasignado al día siguiente.
Por tanto regresé al hotel, con Jared. Le comenté todo lo que me había sucedido. Esa tarde conversamos de muchos temas, comimos un derretido juntos y disfrutamos de gelato en un local cerca del hotel. Además tuve la oportunidad de utilizar una computadora del proyecto OLPC. Son unos ordenardores muy completos. Un niño sería demasiado feliz con una herramienta como esa. En la noche cenamos junto a Will Woods en un restaurante laboratorio.
Pisando Panamá
Jared y yo llegamos temprano al aeropuerto a ver respuestas respecto a mi situación. De igual manera Jared estaba preparándose para su vuelo de regreso. Al final, ambos, en ese sentido, tuvimos éxito.
Nos despedimos y, bueno, continué mi aventura solo. No hubo ningún tipo de problema con los viajes de regreso. Llegué a Panamá sin problemas. Mi familia me esperaba contenta, ansiosa de saber mi gran aventura. Y así volví a mi realidad.
Mi Conclusión
Me pareció una experiencia extraordinaria y única. Adquirí nuevos conocimientos, conocí nuevos amigos, aprendí nuevas experiencias, crecí como persona. Espero que los próximos eventos sean tan exitosos como lo fue este.

FUDCon LATAM 2011 - Third Day
The third day was the best. The talks presented were well received by the audience. Daniel Bruno explained that Latin American Infrastructure in Fedora. This helped to decide the future of this important branch of the Fedora community.
One of the most awaited talks: "Why You are all idiots?" By Kanarip, was one of the most interesting. People were very curious about what was going to expose. Many questions emerged and were resolved by Kanarip.
Tatica presented about photo on GIMP. I had to speak about the use of Eclipse as a development platform. Many of the vi and emacs users realized the benefits that have Eclipse. During my presentation we realize the presence of Johel Batista, a 14-year fedorian who runs a website called Ayudinga.com. It consists of a question and answer space where ideas are shared.
Parallel to my presentation of Eclipse, Juan Rodriguez of Paraguay (Jared Smith) was talking about "How to be the next leader of the Fedora Project?". It was one of the most popular presentations, because Jared was revealing the secrets of his success as a leader of the Fedora Project.
Later came the lunch. Followed were with the "Lightning Talks." Antonio explained how to develop personalized and automated systems. Neville explained about OpenStreetMap. Finally, Johel detailed his website and urged the audience to publicize his site.
After the "Lightning Talks" began the Hackfests. Tatica speak of marketing, while Igor and others organized the Latin American Fedora Infrastructure. Larry explained the use of Spacewalk. Gomix was in the process of graduation of the new packagers. Haks and Tatica were coordinating the art for Fedora 16.
To end the sessions of that day, Igor made a comparison of this and the previous FUDCon, sharing the experiences of their team leaders, Alejandro (Panama) and Antonio (Chile). Alejandro extended his thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
At night we were in the FUDPub. The event rise in Bowling El Dorado. It was the best because all fedorians shared as a family. We ate, drank and enjoyed bowling. It was a very important opportunity to seal the bonds of friendship that sprang from FUDCon.
There was a great surprise, was a birthday cake for Fedora 15. It was immense. Everyone was surprised and happy. Luis Bazan and other fedorianos eat "literally" the cake. Apart from that, everything was excellent.
Thank you again to all who contributed ideas, effort, time, words and all his energies to make the event like a star in the sky. Later I will be posting my general summary of the event, where I will present in detail, my views and feelings.

El tercer día fue muy provechoso. Las charlas que se presentaron recibieron una gran aceptación por parte de la audiencia. Daniel Bruno explico en que consiste la Infraestructura Latinoamericana de Fedora. Esta presentacion ayudo a que se decidiera el futuro de esta importante rama de la Comunidad Fedora.
Una de las charlas mas esperadas: "Why you are all idiots?", por Kanarip, fue una de las mas interesantes. La gente estaba muy curiosa sobre lo que iba a exponer. Muchas preguntas emergieron y fueron resueltas por Kanarip.
Tatica hizo su presentación sobre Fotografía con GIMP. A mi me tocó exponer sobre la utilización de Eclipse como plataforma de desarrollo. Muchos de los usuarios vi y emacs, se dieron cuenta de las bondades que tiene el Eclipse. Durante mi presentación nos percatamos de la presencia de Johel Batista, un fedoriano de 14 años que administra un sitio web llamado Ayudinga.com. Consiste en un espacio de preguntas y respuestas donde se comparten ideas.
Paralelamente a mi presentación de Eclipse, Juan Rodriguez del Paraguay (Jared Smith) estaba hablando sobre "¿Cómo ser el próximo lider del Proyecto Fedora?". Fue una de las presentaciones mas concurridas, debido a que Jared estaba revelando los secretos de su éxito como líder del proyecto Fedora.
Posteriormente llego el almuerzo. Seguido estabamos con las "Lighting Talks". Antonio explicó como desarrollar sistemas personalizados y automatizados. Neville explico sobre OpenStreetMaps. Finalmente, Johel detalló su sitio web y exhortó a los presentes a divulgar su sitio.
Después de los "Lighting Talks" empezaron los Hackfests. Tatica hablo de marketing, mientras que Igor y otros organizaban la Infraestructura Latinoamericana de Fedora. Larry explico la utilizacion de Spacewalk. Gomix estuvo en el proceso de graduacion de los nuevos empaquetadores. Paralelamente Tatica y Haks estaban coordinando el arte para el Fedora 16.
Para terminar las sesiones del dia, Igor hizo una comparativa de este FUDCon y el anterior, haciendo decir sus experiencias como líderes de equipo, a Alejandro (Panamá) y a Antonio (Chile). Alejandro extendió su agradecimiento a todas las personas que aportaron al éxito del evento.
En la noche estuvimos en el FUDPub. El evento dió lugar en los Bolos del Dorado. Fue lo mejor del FUDCon porque todos los fedorianos compartimos como una verdadera familia. Comimos, bebimos y disfrutamos de los bolos. Fue una oportunidad muy importante para sellar los lazos de amistad que nacieron del FUDCon.
Hubo una gran sorpresa, llegó un dulce de cumpleaños de Fedora 15. Era de un tamaño inmenso. Todos estuvieron sorprendidos y contentos. Luis Bazan y otros fedorianos comieron "literalmente" del dulce. A parte de eso, todo fue excelente.
Agradezco nuevamente a todos los que aportaron sus ideas, su esfuerzo, su tiempo, sus palabras y todas sus energías para que el evento fuera un estrella del cielo... brillante.

FUDCon LATAM 2011 - Second Day
We arrived the second day and enjoyed many conferences and hackfests. The presence of people was very acceptable, similar to the first day. There was a negative aspect that bothered me and it was the sudden change of schedule and the lounges by the virtualization speekers. That was not fair to the fellow fedorians who had already allocated a room for their presentations.
The speeches given this day were phenomenal. Itamar and his presentation of "Fedora ARM" taught us the goodness that is cross-compiling. Ambassadors learned enough of the "Tips and Recommendations for the Ambassadors' given by Neville. Henry, along with the other people, explained in detail how virtualization works through KVM.
For those interested in marketing, Tatica made his presentation on "Marketing and Logistic Inside." Those interested in packaging, Kanarip spoke of "Software Packaging, RPM, Guidelines, Build Systems But Why?". Those interested in design learned a lot from Juan Barba on Inkscape.
Neville later talked about the "Fedora Landscape." Guillermo presented the basic concepts of community development of Fedora RPM. Kanarip explained the use of cloud for Fedora.
We tasted a delicious lunch and shared ideas of the conferences made. After that we heard interesting talks such as: Fedora Design Team, Koji Build, WebServer at Home, Fedora Private Mirrors, Internazionalization, GNOME3, OLPC and Drops Dead.
After that, hackfests began. Gomix made Ruby Coding Dojo and Tatica worked on Fedora Magazine. In short, was full of knowledge, full of work but in the end, everything was excellent. I hope the third day finished as the top two. I say goodbye and see you on the third day.
FUDCon LATAM 2011 - Segundo Día
Llegamos al segundo día y disfrutamos de muchas conferencias y hackfests. La presencia de las personas fue bastante aceptable, similar al primer día. Hubo un aspecto negativo que me molestó y fue la modificación repentina del horario y de los salones por parte de los expositores de virtualización. Eso no fue justo con los compañeros fedorianos que tenían ya asignado un salón para sus presentaciones.
Las conferencias dadas en este día fueron fenomenales. Itamar y su presentación de "Fedora ARM" nos enseñó las bondadas que tiene la cross-compiling. Los embajadores aprendieron bastante de los "Consejos y Recomendaciones para los Embajadores" dada por Neville. Henry, junto a otras personas, explicaron, en detalle, como trabaja la virtualización a través de KVM.
Para los interesados en mercadeo, Tatica hizo su presentación sobre "Marketing and Logistic Inside". Los interesados en empaquetamiento, Kanarip habló de "Software, Packaging, RPM, Guidelines, Build Systems But Why?". Los interesados en mercadeo aprendieron mucho de Juan Barba sobre Inkscape.

Después comenzaron los Hackfests. Gomix comenzó el Ruby Coding Dojo. Tatica trabajó sobre el Fedora Magazine. En realidad fueron bastante provechosas para el público que asistió.
En resumen, estuvo lleno de conocimiento, lleno de trabajo pero, en fin, todo salió excelente. Espero que el tercer día termine tal como los dos primeros. Me despido y nos vemos en el tercer día.

FUDCon LATAM 2011 - First Day
This was the first day, a day full of knowledge, friendship and, above all, Fedora. This day was carried to success through the efforts of the international team of Fedora, the local team and everyone who attended the conference.
Everything was well organized and followed the schedule. Everything was done in the Building 184 of the City of Knowledge. I started giving a little welcome speech, thanking the City of Knowledge and all the sponsors, and the attendees. In addition, I described the event.
Jared Smith then spoke a very interesting and deep speech of the Fedora community. This talk used analogies, which I thought was very creative.
Later, I explained what is a BarCamp. Igor Soares and other members of the Fedora community were organizing the votation. Eventually it became the schedule as it appears on the event wiki.
Then, Toshio Kuratomi explained his theme: "Python for System Administrators". It was a very accepted by the public, as presented, with great simplicity, the advantages and strengths that has the programming language Python.
Then we had lunch (the Fedora team), in Building 105. The lunch was a total delight. The other tasted of some tasty snacks.
At about one in the afternoon talks renaud. Guillermo Gomez was the first to expose. Its topic was "Network in Fedora". It was a full discussion of how networks work in Fedora. I actually quite liked. There were many questions.
The topic then by Valentin Basel, "Educational Robotics and Hardware to Software Libre", produced great impact on the audience.
Later Edwin Contreras spoke on "What makes people live Free Software?". This talk I found very uplifting because he presented his views about working with free software and, at the end, he agreed with him.
Oscar Torres, Dell, spoke a little about what is "Virtualization" and presented the main features of it. He was giving away some small gifts to those who answered their questions and, equally, those who asked.
To end the session Jared Smith presented the topic "Technical Documentation", where he presented the DocBook tools, their characteristics and method of use. The public likes the versatility of the tool.
After many presentations, we decided to eat some burgers at "El Corral", located in Albrook Mall. Finally, we return to the villages where we share experiences, uploading photos, and writing in our respective media.
I thank all those who put a grain of sand to make the event as it is coming out. I hope with all my heart, that the event continues as it is doing currently.

FUDCon LATAM 2011 - Primer Día
Este fue el primer día, una jornada llena de conocimiento, amistad y, sobre todo, Fedora. Este día se llevó al éxito gracias al esfuerzo del equipo internacional de Fedora, el equipo local y todas las personas que asistieron a las conferencias.
Todo fue muy bien organizado y seguía el horario establecido. Se dió en el Edificio 184 de la Ciudad del Saber. Yo inicié dando unas pequeñas palabras de bienvenida, agradeciendo a la Ciudad del Saber y a todos los patrocinadores, y a los presentes. Además, describí el evento, los días que durará, entre otros detalles.
Luego habló Jared Smith, líder del proyecto Fedora, el cual dió una muy interesante y profunda charla sobre la comunidad Fedora. Esta charla utilizó bastante analogías, lo cual me pareció muy creativo.
Posteriormente, yo expliqué en qué consiste la mecánica del BarCamp. Igor Soares y otros miembros de la comunidad Fedora estaban organizando los temas y la votación. Al final quedó el horario tal como aparece en la wiki del evento.
Seguidamente, Toshio Kuratomi expuso su tema: "Python for System Administrators". Fue un tema muy aceptado por el público, ya que presentaba, con mucha sencillez, las bondades y fortalezas que tiene el lenguaje de programación Python.
Luego tuvimos el almuerzo (el equipo Fedora), en el Edificio 105. El almuerzo era una total delicia. Los otros degustaron de unas ricas boquitas.
Como a eso de la una de la tarde se renaudaron las charlas. Guillermo Gomez fue el primero en exponer. Su tema era "Network in Fedora". Era una exposición completa de cómo funcionan las redes en Fedora. En realidad me gustó bastante. Hubieron bastantes preguntas.
El tema expuesto después por Valentín Basel, "Robótica Educativa con Software y Hardware Libre", produjo gran impacto en la audiencia. Fue una exposición teórica-práctica, donde inicialmente explicó el porqué de su proyecto y, finalmente, echó a andar el robot, lo que causó alegría en el público.
Posteriormente Edwin Contreras habló sobre "¿De qué vive la gente que hace Software Libre?". Esta charla me pareció muy edificante porque él presentó su punto de vista respecto al trabajo con el software libre y, a las finales, estaba de acuerdo con él.
Oscar Torres, de Dell, expuso un poco sobre lo que trata "Virtualización" y presentó las características principales de la misma. Él estuvo regalando unos pequeños regalos a los que respondían sus preguntas e, igualmente, los que le preguntaban.
Para finalizar la sesión de charlas Jared Smith expuso el tema de "Documentación Técnica", donde presentó la herramienta DocBook, sus características y forma de utilización. Al publicó le gustó por la versatilidad que tiene la herramienta.
Después de tantas presentaciones, decidimos ir a comer unas excelentes hamburguesas de "El Corral", ubicado en Albrook Mall. Finalmente regresamos a las villas donde estuvimos compartiendo experiencias, cargando las fotografías que se tomaron y escribiendo en nuestros respectivos medios.
Agradezco a todos los que pusieron un grano de arena para que el evento salga como está saliendo. Espero, de todo corazón, que el evento siga como lo está haciendo actualmente.
